MAN TO THE MOON
- How did man land on the Moon?
- The first man to place his foot on the Moon was Armstrong, followed by his colleague, Aldrin.
- Since the Moon has no atmosphere, the footprints which these two men left behind will remain intact upon the lunar landscape for millions of years.
- The astronauts walked on the surface of the Moon, performing experiments, taking samples and photographing the desolate lunar landscape. They set up seismographs in order to detect lunar activity and to register meteor impacts.
THE RETURN JOURNEY
- The astronauts returned safely to the planet Earth on the 24th July 1969. They were subjected to a series of medical check-ups in the search for any unknown viruses or bacteria, nothing untoward was discovered and no other forms of life were found.
- Scientific interest was focussed on the 35 kilos of rocks that the astronauts had brought back with them.
- Formation of the Moon
