INTRODUCTION
For centurias it was thought that our emotions were found a tour hearts.
The job of the heart is to pump our blood completely through our bodies and to circulate it through every single tissue and cell thereby apporting all oxygen and food they need and withdraw any waste-products from them.
THE HEART
Its size and weight. Its localisation.
The myocardium: atria, ventricles.
Flow of the blood in the heart.
Heart-beats: contraction and relaxation; systole, diastole.
Pulse. Heart-rate.
BLOOD CIRCULATION
Our blood circulation system is a close-circuit system through which blood flows all over our bodies.
Flow of the blood in the human body: heart, arteries, lungs, veins.
Blood passes through the heart twice and journeys through a network whose total length would be more than 96,000 kilometres.
Function of arteries and veins.
Blood vessels: oxygenation of tissues, elimination of waste-products and maintenance of the body-temperature.
Energy consumption of the heart.
HEALTH AND QUALITY OF LIFE.
We have to keep our hearts and blood vessels in first-class condition for the perfect functioning of the other organs of the body.
Thrombosis, myocardium infarcts and arteriosclerosis.
